Guestbook Version 1.7 Wish List!

Hello everyone,

Could some of you help us put together a wish list of things people would like to see in the new release of the DigiOz Guestbook? Here is the list we have so far:

1- Administrative Interface for deleting and editing guestbook entries easily (already coded).

2- IP Blocking of Spammers or people violating the guestbook rules.

3- Search feature to search through existing guestbook entries.

4- Changing the list of links at the bottom of the list page to either a drop-down combo menu box or only showing 10 page links a the bottom of the list page at a time.

5- URL and Image UBB code to allow people to display images and links using the UBB code syntax (example [ u r l] www.blabla.com [ / u r l ] without the spaces, or [i m g] www.blabla.com/image.jpg [/ i m g].


That's all we have so far. Feel free to add more to this list by posting your comments here.

More items for our wish list:

6- Spam Filter Function to prevent spammers from posting junk into the guestbook (this would probably have to be either keyword based, or IP based, or both!)

7- Optional Post IP and IP Address Log feature (for those who want to refine their spam filter).

8- Optional SPAMMER IP and IP ADDRESS Log (to allow guestbook users to report spammer to their ISP's).

Anyone else want to add more items to this list?

I could not agree with you more.

* - Include the links at the bottom of the page at the top as well.

I have coded this into the V1.6 Guestbook that I manage.

* - Correct the number of messages per page code.

In V1.6, if you set 10 messages per page, the first page is correct but subsequent pages show 11 messages per page. I tried to work out a fix logically but lost most of my hair in the attempt I did manage to code it but I did it by trial and error so I am not happy with what I have done.

* Better BadWord filter.

I have done some clunky coding to get around some issues but it is very crude. No pun intended

From the testing that I have done so far, it would appear that the number of messages per page problem with V1.6 has been resolved in V1.7.

* How about a sanity check for the BB code.

Recently someone put a message into the Guestbook I manage and there was a stray
opening BOLD tag (no closing tag). This rendered all messages to be displayed in BOLD
